"Wellington", Monday. The following telegrams have beeu received by the authorities here : — " Tur.vnga.nui, Saturday, Dec. 5. "The Ngatiporous have fixed the enemy in a mass about five miles above the former field of action, and have begun to fight, having taken the outer fence with only the loss of one killed and five wounded. " Frazer's men [Armed Constabulary] are off, and will be on the ground to-morrow (Sunday) morning. "All looks well. No grumbling amongst the Maoris against Colonel Whitmora so far. "I go up with him. " J. C. ErcmiO'D." " Napieii, Sunday. " F'tfty-seven of the enemy have been killed by the friendly Maoris about six miles from the scene of the lasb engagement. " Of the friendly Mioria there were only oue killed and fh'e wounded. " Donald M'Lea.n."
