DEFEAT OF THE POVERTY BAY HAUHAUS.
OVER 100 EEBELS KILLED,

Napier news gives accounts of an attack made by the friendly natives in Poverty Bay, under Captain Westrupp, on the position of Te Kooti's Hauhaus.
The engagement was short but very sharp on both sides while it lasted. The rebels were compelled to retreat, leaving 37 dead on the field. Their loss is ascertained as 50 killed. They also lost 2000 rounds of ammunition.
Only one man on our side was killed, and one wounded.
Te Kooti, severely wounded, was taken away on a litter a few days before, and with him went 250 men. A body of the Ngatiporous followed in hot pursuit, and it is reported had made up with the retreating rebels. Two chiefs of repute and great cruelty are killed
The Sfcurfc and Ladybird, with the 350 men under Colonel Wbittnore were off the East Coast last night, and were to land at Wairoa.
