WAKEFIELD.

The annual opening game of the Wakefield Cricket Club came off on Thursday, November 5, between eleven of the married and eleven of the single members of the Club. The weather was all that could be desired, the play spirited, maintaining that prestige which this club has so nobly won for itself. It terminated in favor of the single, with four wickets to go down. The score stood thus: — Maeeibd—First innings, 41; Second innings, 45, Total, 86. Single—First innings, 55; Second innings, 32. Total, 87. And so ended one of the best days' sport of this manly game that has taken place for some years past. Everyone tried to excel; the fielding was good, the bowling excellent, and some very dexterous catches were made during the play—everything was jolly, and good humored jokes were the order of the day. A substantial collation was provided, which all appeared to do full justice to. Nor was this the only amusement, for the ladies of the district (however much they may admire the game of cricket) determined to relieve that monotony usually felt by the fair sex on such occasions, and being provided with the requisites for croquet, commenced in right earnest, some on the cricket ground, and others in the enclosure adjoining the school, but with what success deponent knoweth not, further than that some of the ladies were delighted with being the rover for the time. What with cricket and croquet, Lower Wakefield has not gathered together brighter eyes and more smiling faces on its cricket ground than on the present occasion.—Coiiimunicated.
