TESTIMONIALS TO MR. KYNNERSLEY.

The following letter has been sent to Mr. Kynnersley by his Honor the Superintendent-of Nelson : — Sir, —" I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letters of the sth August, and the 12th September, tendering your resignation of all the offices you hold under the Provincial Government of Nelson, and making vuluable suggestion as to, the arrangements which will become necessary in case the Government should decide not to fi!l up tho office of Commissioner of the South-west. Gcldfields. It is with the greatest regret that I accept your resignation, from the 30th of the present month, the more especially as I fear the injury to your health has resulted rather from a too zealous and self-sacri-ficing application to the arduous and important duties which you have bean called upon to perform, and by which the South-wesh Goldfields, and the whole Province have so largely ber.cfittcd—than from the influence of climate to whiuh yon attribute it. On behalf of the Provincial Government and of the people of Nelson I have to express my acknowledgement of the highly satisfactory and successful manner in which you have discharged the duties entrusted to you throughout tho time of your office, ami my Btrong appreciation of the judgment and discretion which you displayed during the lote political disturbances in the district under your control by which I am convinced a veiy great calamity was averted from the Province and the Uolouy. I sincerely trust that relief from the continuous exertion of mind and body which you have undergone during the last few years will lead to the speedy re-establishment of your health." I have, &c., Oswald Cubtis, Superintendent of Nelson. Wellington, 17th September, 1868. ;

We learn from tho Westport Star that a banquet was given to Mr. Kynnersley, at Brighton, on Wednesday evening, October 28th, and proved a great success. Sixty gentlemen sat down to a well-laid table, at nine o'clock, in Slattery's Hotel. Mr. Home was in the chair, and the vice-chairmen were Messrs. Sutherland and Hnckett, miners. Mr. Donne, M.P.C., and Mr. Broad, E.M., were among those present. Mr. Kynnersley was presented with a purse, containing fifty guineas, and also with a ring, with a crest representing local produce and manufactures. A cavalcade of twenty horsemen escorted Mr. Kynnersley to Charleston next morning.

A farewell dinner was given to Mr. Kynnersley by the Government officials at Westport, on Nov. 2nd. On the same day, a watch and chain (valued £80) was presented to Mr. Kynnersley by the Police and Gaol Department. The presentation took place in private at the Camp, the gift being handed over by Inspector Franklyn, who spoke as follows:—" On the eve of your departure from the Nelson Southwest Goldfields, the members of the police and gaol departments have selected me to present you with a small tribute of the esteem and affection felt for you by tho members of both departments. lam particularly desired to thank you sincerely for the kind and impartial manner in which you have at all times acted towards these branches of the service. All of us unite in a sincere prayer for your future welfare and success, and only wish that a happy chance may again place us under your charge. We have one favor to ask of you—that on returning to Nelson you will allow Mr. Davis, the photographer there, to take your photograph, when, if you say that you will allow us that privilege, I am directed to write to Mr. Davis and obtain from him a portrait in oil colors for each station on the goldfields, so that we may be reminded at all times of our best friend, and that those who come after us may have a lusting souvenir of him who haß been the founder of the Nelson Southwest GoldfiekU Police Force."
