MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS

ACCOUNT OF STEWARDSHIP CHAMBER OF COMMERCE REQUEST _ The Te Awamutu Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday night decided to ask the Borough Council to address a public meeting and there give an account of its .stewardship. Mr. A. G. Warburton said he put forward the suggestion for the favourable consideration of the Chamber. Now was the time when most local bodies were reviewing their three years of office. There had been many questions raised as to local civic administration and some of the questions were sound. On the other hand they had to recognise that the Council had given a lot of time and service. It would be helpful to the Borough Council if the Chamber could assure them of a large attendance at a meeting where the Council could place before the public what they had done and what were their immediate problems. Mr. Warburton moved accordingly. Mr. R. K. Grieve asked if it was intended to ask questions or ’to leave it to the Borough Council. Mr. G. Fayne seconded Mr. Warburton’s motion and it was carried. Mr. Grieve moved that the Borough Council be asked to consider written questions by the public, 24 hours’ notice to be given before the meeting. Mr. D. Williams seconded the motion. After Mr. R. F. Armstrong had asked if there was a suggested time as to when the meeting should be held. The motion was carried.
