THE JAYCEES

QUESTION OF INCORPORATION OPPOSITION BY ASSOCIATED BODY The question of the Associated Chambeis of Commerce objection to the incorporation of junior chambers was before this week’s meeting of the Te Awamutu Chamber of Commerce. A lengthy circular letter from the Association setting forth some of their objections was read. The local senior chamber some time ago agreed to the local junior chamber’s request for incorporation. Mr. R. F. Armstrong said some of the longer senior chambers were opposed to the incorporation of the Jaycees. It was considered by the associated body that the junior chamber should be allowed to be incorporated. After Mr. Armstrong had outlined some of the reasons for the objection he said that six in New Zealand remained to be incorporated and they were blocked from doing .so. Eight or nine had been incorporated. As the senior chamber they were entitled to more information. Mr. Ansell moved that the Associated Chamber be written to and a.sked why they were opposed to incorporation of junior chambers. Mr. A. G. Warburton said one could realise some grounds in the main centres for the opposition, but it was hard to understand why in the smaller towns there should be any fear as to incorporation. The chairman, Mr. Wanklyn, suggested leaving the matter over for a while. They knew of the patchy position that existed in Te Awamutu. Mr. G. E. Warburton said certain information should be before them ere long. Mr. R. F. Armstrong said that the Associated Chamber was not an incorporated body. Mr. Ansell’s motion was then carried.
