WOMEN’S DIVISION

THE BRANCH AT KINOHAKU THE GARDENING CIRCLE The Gardening Circle of the Kinohaku branch of the Women’s Divisidn, Farmers, spent a morning at the residence of Mfr and Mrs J. Vigers, where the beautiful garden was inspected and much admired. Members were particularly impressed with a beautiful array of sweet peas and a nice patch of lettuce. The citrus trees also came in for a great deal of attention. The general layout of the. garden was regarded as splendid. 1 During the morning Mr C. Palmer gave an interesting and instructive address on budding and grafting. A competition, identifying plants, was won by Mrs C. Palmer . Lunch was provided by the ladies, while M]rs J. Vigers herself entertained the junior members at a splendid repast, served on the verandah. The monthly meeting of the branch was held in the hall in the afternoon, Mrs T. Brough presiding in the unavoidable absence of the President, Mrs Reg. Clarke. Several letters were received from England acknowledging receipt of and extending thanks for food parcels sent by the branch. Mrs N. Hunter of Auckland, a former member of the branch, wrote 'congratulating the ladies on the excellent success achieved at the recent Flower Show. Consideration was given to the schedule for the next annual Flower Show in the light of experience gained at the last one. Monthly competitions resulted as follows: Seniors Cooking, three cream puffs; Mrs J. Fitzgibbon 1. Sewing: Mrs L. Harper 1. Knitting: Mrs C. E. Shaw 1, Mrs L. Harper 2, M|rs J. Fitzgibbon 3 . Best Bloom: Mrs C. Palmer and Miss V. Moore (equal) 1, Mrs N. Brown 3. _ Decorative, bridesmaid’s basket of flowers: Mrs C. Palmer 1, Mrs T. Blough 2, Mrs J. Fitzgibbon 3 . Juniors Christmas Present, over ten years: Ngaire Fitzgibbon 1, Mlarjorie ShavP 2, Colleen Shaw 3. Under ten years: Joan Shaw 1, Raewyn Fitzgibbon 2, Lorraine Harper 3. The branch then went into recess till February.
