THE TE RAU-A-MOA CLUB AN AUSPICIOUS START The annual meeting of Te Rau-a-Moa Tennis Club was held in the Hall on Saturday, 19th November, when the following officers were elected: Patron, Ms A. K .Hogarth; president, Mr A. C- Purser; vice-presidents, Mr C. Templeton and Mr A. Tripe; secretary, Mrs Purser; treasurer, Mrs Schaare; Club captain, Mi - P. Schaare; vice-captain, Mr S. Tripe; committee. Mrs B. Miller, Misses D. Templeton, F. Kivell, and B. Schaare, and Mr L. Templeton. The official opening of the Club was held on Saturday, 3rd December, when about thirty-two members and friends were preesnt. A most enjoyable day wa sspent by all, and some close and exciting games were played. Play commenced at 11 a.m., and the few showers of rain that came along did not interfere with play at all. After the luncheon break the President, Mr A. Purser, welcomed visitors from Honikiwi and Oparau, and expressed a desire to invite members of.other clubs to the local court during the season, thus helping to create more enthusiasm for the game among the younger players. He then called on the Patron, Mr A. Kt Hogarth, to declare the court open for the 19491950 season. In a few words Mr Hogarth expressed his appreciation at being given the honour of being Patron of the Club, and said how pleased he was to see it going again, and wished everyone a very good and happy season. After a few sets had been played a very nice afternoon tea was served, and at this stage Mr Hogarth rose to thank the ,Club memebrs and committee for the most enjoyable day, and thanked the ladies for the nice luncheon and afternoon tea provided. Mrs Harty, on behalf of Honikiwi visitors, and Mr Alan Bogust, on behalf of Oparau visitors, also voiced their appreciation for the enjoyable day they had all had. On the previous Saturday a handicap doubles tournament was held the finals being: F. Kivell and L. Kivell v. J. Budden and A. Tripe. This was played off on opening day., the winners being v* Kivell and L. Kivell. A very friendly dance held in the Hall at night brought a most enjoyable day to a close. Mrs W1 Langdon very kindly supplied the music. Competition winner: Ngere Harty, Honikiwi.
