KAWHIA SCHOOL

DISTRICT AGRICULTURAL GROUP SUCCESSFUL FIELD DAY Witnessed by a large gathering of parents and children, the Group Field Day was held on Saturday last in the grounds of the Kawhia District High School. That interest has grown in the activities of the Group was proved by the large number of entries in the various classes. Te Rau-a-Moa provided the champion calf, entered by Raymond living, and the champion lamb was entered.by Terry Stoles, of Kawhia District High School. A feature of the day was an adults’ judging competition, which was won by Miss L. Price. Grand Champion Calf: Winner of Bronlund Cup: Raymond Irving (Te Rau-a-M|ba) 1, Dennis Simmons (Kawhia) 2, Terry Scoles (Kawhia) 3. Miss L. Price presented the Bronlund Cup to Raymond Irving, of Te Rau-a-M)oa School, who then led the Grand Parade. After the Parade, Mr A. Johnson of Te Awamutu, who acted as judge for the calves, gave the children (and many adults, too) some points about selecting calves. The Group’s thanks are extended to the two judges, Messrs A. Johnson and W. Benson, who came from Te Awamutu to perform their onerous tasks. Thanks are also extended to the ladies of the Kawhia ParentTeacher Association for the very capable way in which they handled the luncheon and afternoon tea. The committee of the Group wishes to thank all those people who contributed towards the success of the day.
