PATRIOTIC HUT

YOUNG MENS’ INSTITUTE QUESTION OF FUTURE LOCATION The future situation of the former Y.M.C.A. recreational hut, at No. 1 Air Station, Te Awamutu, now possessed by the Young Mens’ Institute, was referred to by Mr A. G. Warburton at Tuesday night’s meeting of the 13 Awamutu Chamber of Commerce. Mr Warburton asked if the chamber could take an ihterest in this'matter. A public meeting is to be held toward the and of the month to discuss and decide upon the future of the building. The speaker said that £l5OO .had been spent on the building, comprising in addition to debentures taken up by public-spirited citizens, a subsidy of £5OO from the Department of Internal Affairs, a donation of £3O from the Junior Chamber of Commerce, and miscellaneous contributions. The question now, said Mr Warburton, was whether the building should be left on its present site or shifted to a site nearer the town. To Mr E. Freed, the speaker said that the building could not be erected within the borough’s brick area. Mr Freed thought that the Institute building should be situated as centrally as possible for the benefit of the young people of the town. Recreational amenities in Te Awamutu were lacking. The chairman (Mr S. H. Wanklyn), exhorted members of the chamber to attend the fore-mentioned public meeting, and to take an active interest in the future location of the building.
