SOLDIERS HONOURED
NGAROTO COMPLIMENTARY SOCIAL
A complimentary social arranged by the ladies of the Ngaroto district was held at the residence of Mr W. G. Macky on Thursday night in honour of Private Ivon Budden and Driver L. G. Johnson. The time was spent in community singing, billiards and cards, a particularly enjoyable feature of the evening being a bracket of pianoforte solos by Mrs Beale, who is 86 years of age, her beautiful rendering of many old tunes acclaiming her a pianist of no mean ability. Mr S. Smith, in asking Private Budden to accept a wallet on behalf of the residents, referred to his sterling qualities and extended to ' him the best wishes of everyone present. The good wishes of the district also went to Driver L. G. Johnson, who was unfortunately able to be present, but who was represented by his wife and parents. Mr J. Parr also spoke in eulogistic terms of thetwo men, and also thanked Mr W. G. Macky and the Misses C. and K. Macky for the use of their house. After a delicious supper the evening concluded with the singing of Auld Lapg Syne.
