PRIMARY SCHOOL

MEETING OF COMMITTEE The Te Awamutu Primary Schoo) Committee met last Friday evening, those present were Messrs Les Armstrong (chairman), Wall, Waters. Ward, White, Spence and the headmaster, Mr N. F. Rigby. Apologies were received from Messrs J. Short and E. Menary. The secretary, Mr J. G. Wynyard. tabled a statement of the year’s workings, which showed a small surplus, and informed the meeting that a copy had been forwarded to the Education Board. HEADMASTER’S REPORT The headmaster’s report stated that the present roll number is 570. The combined, sports on March 18 proved an* outstanding success, the school gaining three firsts and nine seconds during the day. The report gave a resume of work done at the school grounds for the month, thanks being extended to Mr A. B. White, for donating a load of farmyard manure to the school. WORKS’ COMMITTEE The Works’ Committee reported that a certain amount of tidying up around the grounds had been done during the month, and that the gang mower on loan from the Borough Council has now been repaired. It was decided to give the mower a trail with a representative present from the Borough Council,, and also to make provision for keeping the mower under cover when not in use.

Appreciation of the efforts of Mr Riley, and his staff in endeavouring to improve the environs of the Roche Street School were expressed by the Committee. ADDITIONAL CLASSROOMS • Arising out of the correspondence there was a full discussion on the prospects of having the additional classrooms erected at the Teasdale Street School. The secretary stated that Mr Gooseman, M.P., has been very active on the matter, and it now rested with the Building Controller, as to whether the material could be made available or not. Members instanced cases where fairly large private buildings were being put in hand, and the secretary was instructed to write the Minister, stating the urgency of the work. GENERAL Accounts passed for payment totalled £‘2o 4s 3d. it being explained by the chairman that the cost of the winter’s supply of coal was included in the above amount. Owing to the coming holidays the date of the next Committee Meeting will be Wednesday, May sth. Messrs Armstrong and Spence were apointed to act as inspection committee for the coming month.
