TE-RAU-MOA NOTES

On Friday evening the settlers of Te Rau-a-moa gathered at the home of Mr and Mrs H. Tripe to bid farewell to their son. Private Seton Tripe. Private Tripe has lived in the district all his life and has always been very popular with the older members of the community, as well as the younger ones. The evening was a great success, the time being spent with cards and music. At the conclusion of the evening Mr A. K. Hogarth expressed the regret of the settlers at Seton’s departure and wished him a safe return. Mr Millar Anderson endorsed Mr Hogarth’s remarks, and on behalf of the settlers made a handsome presentation. Private Tripe suitably replied and the gathering broke up with the singing of “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” PERSONAL Miss Peggy McKenzie, who has been spending the week-end with Mr and Mrs W. J. Parkinson, has now returned to Hobsonville. Mr and Mrs B. Y. Berntsen, of Hauturu, are the guests of Mr and Mrs B. Berntsen, Te Rau-a-moa. Privates John Parkinson and Seton Tripe, who have been home on leave, have now returned to their camps. Mr A. Daysh, of Carterton, who has been visiting his brother, Mr W. H. Daysh, has now returned home.

Messrs H. Daysh and R. Dickson have now returned from a very enjoyable holiday spent at Kawhia. Mrs N. Henderson and family, of Hamilton, spent the week-end with Mr and Mrs W. H. Daysh.
