SIR WALTER SCOTT

ANNIVERSARY THIS WEEK. Scottish societies in all parts of the world are celebrating this month the one hundred and sixty-ninth anniversary of the birth of S,ir Walter Scott, who was born on 15th August, 1771. Scott holds a unique position in literature, as he is the only writer in any country who has secured a worldwide reputation both as a poet and a novelist.

At New Lynn St. Andrew’s Society meeting to-morrow night Mr A. J. Sinclair, Te Awamutu, will be the guest of the evening, when he will give an address on “ The Wizard of the North,” as Scott was affectionately called by his own people. M,r Sinclair will also broadcast on the same subject from IZM, Auckand, on Sunday evening at 9 o’clock.
