SOLDIERS FAREWELLED A farewell social was held in the Pirongia Hall on Saturday last in honour of Privates Les. Mounsey and H. Onion, of Pirongia. A large number of friends were present and dancing was indulged in. The duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr A Chappell. Mr F. Beet provided music for dancing. Mr J. Livingstone, in a very eloquent speech, asked Les. and Hec. to accept from their many friends, a wallet containing a sum of money. Each in turn responded. Among those present were:—Mesdames McNaughton, black and white floral; W. H. Bell, black ring velvet and lace; E. C. Beet, scarlet and navy ensemble; E. Bell, mulberry cloque; R. Bell, mustard georgette; Moeller, black suit; G. Bainbridge, navy and white ensemble; M. Lindsay, black suit; A. Shaw, floral marrocain; J. Livingstone, dahlia frock and grey poneycloth coatee; F. Beet, henna georgette; J. Turner, floral uncrushable crepe; A. Chappell, prune coloured suit; E. J. Owen, navy crepe de chine; C. Berry, saxe blue marrocain; S. Ormsby, floral crepe de chine; R. Ormsby, floral georgette; E. Bromell, striped green silk; S. Waite, scarlet gypsy crepe; E. Du Tresne, tangerine cocktail suit; T. Robinson, navy cloque and silver diamentes; T. Bray, sky blue frock; Wattie Butler, floral georgette. Misses G. Bell, black and sea blue suit; M. Simms, navy and rose pink cloque; S. Bell, henna and black cocktail suit; E. McNaughton, old rose and satin black crepe; L. Owen, flame velvet and black; M. Rowan, grey and blue ensemble; F. Coxhead, duck egg blue chiffon and white fur coatee; M. Roa, floral georgette; I. Sifleet, brown jumper suit; O. Wall, dust pink cloque; D. Allport, mandarin satin; M. Robinson, tan and green . suit; D. Beet, blue jumper suit;' P. Edwards, powder blue marocain; M. Macky, scarlet taffeta; L. Wall, emerald green satin; L. Bainbridge, blue and lemon suit.
A tasty supper was served by the ladies and a very enjoyable evening was brought to a close w’ith Private Les. Mounsey singing two songs of his own composition. A smoke concert was held recently at Mr J. Grace’s residence in honour of Private Les. Mounsey. There was a large attendance of friends and singing and storiettes were the order of the evening. The guest of honour obliged the company with two or three songs. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” brought the evening to a close. The weekly card tourney was held in the Library on Wednesday last. The winners were: Men, A. Shaw 1, W. Butler 2; ladies, Miss M. Lindsay 1, Miss K. Allport 2. A tasty
supper was served by the ladies. Mrs R. Kerr, of Korakonui spent last week-end in and about Pirongia. Owing to wet and unsettled weather conditions, influenza Ms been rife in and about Pirongia.
