WAIPA ASSOCIATION GAMES. SATURDAY’S RESULTS. The Waipa Hockey Association’s competitions for the Empson Cup (men) and Finch Rosebowl (ladies) were continued on Saturday afternoon under favourable weather conditions. RESULTS AT A GLANCE: Empson Cup.— Paterangi 2 v. Te Awamutu B 1. Te Awamutu A 6 v. Te Rahu 0. Finch Rosebowl.— Otorohanga A 2 v. Pirongia 1. Hairini 2 v. Otorohanga B 0. MEN’S GAMES. Paterangi was expected to have to play “something out of the bag” to defeat Te Awamutu B, but soon it was evident they were the better team, combining in attack and hitting hard to clear when required to defend. The two goals registered were well earned. Te Awamutu A eleven avenged their club mates later in the afternoon, by decisively defeating Te Rahu, the final score being six goals to nil. The scorers were A. Spiers (3), B. Gibson and E. Penny (2). THE LADIES. The meeting of Otorohanga A and Pirongia was expected to provide both good hockey and a keen contest, and so it proved. Play was fast and attractive practically throughout, and Otorohanga had to put forth every effort to win by two goals (scored by J. Cameron and J. Lithgow) to one (G. Bell). Hairini. after several defeats, recorded a decisive victory over Otorohanga B, though there was only a margin of two goals in their favour when the final whistle sounded. . LADIES’ TRIAL GAME. The A and B trial representative game from which the selector will choose an eleven to meet the English ladies’ touring team at Albert Park on Thursday, June 9th, were well matched, and though the standard of play was not quite up to the expectations of spectators, there was plenty doing right from start to finish, and the combination being developed should stand the representative team in good stead whe-n meeting the English team.
