VALEDICTORY
PARAWERA PRESENTATION. PIONEER SETTLERS DEPARTING. A farewell to Mr and Mrs P. A. Cullen and family, of Pukeora Farm, old settlers in the district, was tendered by the residents in the Native School on Friday evening last, when there was one of the largest gatherings ever assembled at a function of the kind at Parawera. Many of those in attendance came from Pukeatua and other near-by districts. Progressive euchre was played by the older folk, whilst the younger ones indulged in ping-pong and dancing. Much-appreciated musical items were contributed by Miss P. Heddon and Mr Don Paul, and an excellent repast was provided by the ladies of the district.
Mr Roger Kay, in presenting the guests of the evening with easy chairs and cushions, said that the gifts were small tokens of the esteem in which Mr and Mrs Cullen were held. They had always assisted in worthy causes for the benefit of the district, and Mr Cullen had done valu - able work in connection with the local school.
Margaret Godfree presented Joyce Cullen with a bouquet of flowers.
Mr Cullen, in responding, thanked Mr Kay for his kindly references to himself and family and the residents for their gifts, which he said would always serve as a reminder of their happy association with Parawera.
The euchre prizes were won by Mrs C. Sutton and Mr E. H. Houston respectively. The very enjoyable and successful function concluded with cheers for the departing guests and the singing of “ Auld Lang Syne.”
