TE AWAMUTU CLUB. OPENING OF 1938 SESSION. •There was a good muster of members of the Te Awamutu Orphans’ Club at the opening of the sixteenth session, last Saturday evening in the Parish Hall, and among the visitors were .President Bro. Stretton and party from Morrinsville, Vice-presi-dent Bro. Ferguson and party from Hamilton, and representatives from Ohaupo Club. Bro. S. C. Wood was formally installed as president for the 1938 session by last year’s president, Bro. A. J. Tailby, and congratulated upon attaining to office, with assurances of loyal support throughout the term. A very interesting and entertaining programme was provided, opening with the march, “Salute of the Colours” and “The Merry-go-round Broke Down,” by the Orphans’ Orchestra, under Bro. L. W. Spence; then followed community singing, songs “Father O’Flynn” and “For the Green,” by Bro. C. B. Linehan; clarionet solos, “Minuet in G,” and a Brahms waltz, by Bros. Brough and Glen thorp, of Hamilton; songs, “Rolling Down to Rio” and “The Open Road,” by Bro. L. Echlin, of Morrinsville; mystifying illusions by Bro. Morris (“Cardo”); songs, “The Gipsy Song” and “The World is Mine,” by Bro. Dawson, of Hamilton; monologues, “Devil May Care” and "The Little Red Ribbon She Wore in Her Hair,” by Bro. Ferguson, of Hamilton; march, “In Lilac Time,” and selection, by the Orchestra; versifying competition, by Bros. G. Galloway, L. W. Spence, J. B. Roberton and D. E. Trevarthen; songs, “Friend O’ Mine” and “An Emblem,” by Bro. Jenkin, of Morrinsville; songs, “Mendin’ Roadways” and “Arise O Sun,” by Bro. Echlin; and choruses, “Sing Heigh-ho” and “The Lass of Richmond Hill,” by the Orphans’ Choir, under Bro. E. W. White. The accompaniments were ably played by Bros. White, Spence and Bent. The subject of the chairman’s aftersupper address was “The Tortures of Week-end Visiting,” and occasioned much merriment. Warm congratulations were accorded the Te Awamutu Club by Bros. Ferguson (Hamilton) and Stretton (Morrinsville), and invitations issued for inter-club visits. Tentative arrangements were also made for a combined night at Cambridge on June 25th.
