SOCIAL FUNCTIONS
VALEDICTORY. MR AND MRS A. CRAIG HONOURED. (Our Own Correspondent.) On Saturday last a very enjoyable evening was held in the Maihiihi hall, where residents of Maihi'ihi and surrounding districts gathered together- to bid farewell to Mr and. Mrs A. Craig, who are leaving the district. Mr Craig, who has been head teacher at the Maihiihi School for the past fourteen years has been transferred to Whangaparoa (North Auckland). Mr J. C. Petersen spoke on behalf of those present of the good work done by both Mr and Mrs Craig at the school, in all sport and for the welfare of the community in general. Mr Craig, being a very keen angler, was presented with a fishing rod and M|rs Craig with a silver sandwich tray.. Miss Myra Peterson, on behalf of the school children, presented Mrs Craig with a most beautiful bouquet of gold chrysanthemums. Mr Craig suitably responded. The evening was spent in modern and old time dancing. A most delightful supper was served by the ladies of the district and the evening was brought to a close with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” CARD EVENING AT TE RORE. PRESENTATION. A card evening and dance was held in thei Te Rore Hall last Saturday evening, the occasion being a presentation to one of the most popular young men of the district, Mr Jack Butterworth. Mr P. Scriven, in a neat speech, extended to Mr Butterworth and Miss Lawson the heartiest best wishes from all present on their approaching marriagei, and asked them, to accept a chiming clock and travelling rug. Mr Butterworth suitably replied.
