MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETS. MANAWATU REPS. MAY PLAY HERE. The Waipa Rugby Union’s management committee met on Monday evening, the president. Mr R. S. Sinclair, occupying the chair, and also present were Messrs P. Stephens, G. Lawrie, H. Worthington, R. L. Adams, H. P. Ensor, and the secretary, Mr H. T. Haselden. The Waikato Union forwarded the draw lor the final of the Clark Cup. for juniors. Waipa play Morrinsville at Morrinsville on Saturday of next week, 21st inst,—Referred to Junior Advisory Board. The Waikato Union regretted its inability tc accede to Waipa’s request for travelling expenses for the Waipa junior reps, (when they met Cambridge in the re-play for the Clark Cup at Hamilton, cn July 28th. Re the Peace Cup elimination game, Maniapcto Union forwarded the names of three referees for Waipa to choose from—Mr Carr, of Otorohanga, was selected, and Mr Sinclair was appointed manager of the Waipa team, which wilt travel to Te Kuiti by private car, leaving Te Awamutu at 12.30 sharp THE TEDDY SHIELD. Mr Sinclair reported a certain amount of disappointment in Te Kuiti regarding the abandonment of Teddy Shield contests this season, and added that it was realised the Waipa Union had acted quite rightly. •To prove their bona fides in the matter, Te Kuiti School authorities had arranged to play a friendly game with Te Awamutu on the 21st inst. The secretary, Otorohanga Union, wrote thanking Waipa for the hospitality extended Otorohanga rep. team on its recent visit to Te Awamutu, and also extending warm congratulations to the selector upon his excellent team.

The manager of the junior rep. team on July 31st is to be asked for a written r"”ort on an incident in the game with Hamilton junior reps, at Te Awamutu.

The secretary was asked to make an effort to have a radio installed at the Albert Park grandstand on Saturday afternoons. Advice was received from the Waika’ro Union that amended arrange-, mens provided for the Waikato v. Hawke’s Bay rep. match, being played at Hamilton, and it was agreed to play the Waikato v. Manawatu game at Te Awamutu on September 4th, if Manawatu Union approves. A PLAYER SUSPENDED. Mr Worthington reported that M. J. Phillips, of Hospital team, had been oidered off the ground on July 31st, and after the game had threatened the referee with violence. The Junior Advisory Board had investigated the matter and suspended Phillips for the rest of the season. Consideration was deferred until next meeting, when full reports will be tabled. Mr Reynolds reported that he had been pursuing inquiries re higher goal posts, and he was authorised to purchase a dozen 15ft. lenghts of tanekaha. A donation of £2 2s was made towards the cost of the Waipa Primary Schools’ R.U. team to play in the Roller Mills Shield Tourney this season at Whangarei. A set cf jerseys was loaned for the occasion. Mr Ensor reported lack of transport for members of the St. John Ambulance Brigade in attending countrygames.—Consideration was deferred until next .meeting. INTERCHANGE OF REFEREES. The secretary, central committee, Hamilton, which controls the Stag Competition series, advised that a redraw had been made for the second round, which now provides for Te Awamutu playing Taupiri on August 14th (next Saturday), with a bye for Rovers on that date. He added that this had been arranged so that Waipa may nostpone the game against Taupiri and play the Peace Cup elimination match with Maniapoto. Reference to the proposal to interchange referees in this competition, he wrote. “Delegates were present from Taupiri, Cambridge and Hamilton, and all stated that they received complain's re the standard of refereeing, but these were no more frequent than when the old system of playing senior competitions was in vogue. The delegates were also of opinion that the only improvement that could be gained from an exchange of referees would be the possible elimination oi’ bias, which they consider is at present not prevalent. The cost entailed is also a handicap, as even if Waipa’s suggested method of finance was adopted only about 7s ner trip would be available for referees’ expenses, which means the clubs and unions concerned would have to carry an additional burden of 28s per Saturday. Under these circumstances the committee decided to take no action, but if your Union still wishes to have outside referees, arrangements can be made for these to be r >inted for games in which Waipa teams take part.”—Received.
