LEAGUE OF MOTHERS
TOKANUI BRANCH. The July meeting of the Tokanui Crossroads League of Mothers was held in Crossroads Hall. Correspondence included a very interesting letter from a member who is on tour overseas. This letter, written from London, describes many interesting places visited, besides an account and impressions of the Coronation of King George VI. and Queen Elizabeth. Members were privileged to have Rev. M. Sullivan, of Te Awamutu, who was the speaker for the meeting and his address dealing with Mission work in Auckland enabled listeners to gain knowledge of the heroic and selfsacrificing work done by those in charge. Though mention was made of similar beneficient work done to alleviate the hardships experienced by many by the Presbyterian, Methodist, Salvation Army and Roman Catholic Missions, more detailed accounts and incidents were related by the speaker of Jasper Calder and Dock Street Mission work to which he was more closely associated. Two very enjoyable vocal solos were rendered by Mrs Sullivan, who, with Rev. Sullivan, were both accorded a very hearty vote of thanks carried by acclamation and they were asked to accept the appreciation of Toka ; nui League of Mothers for their kindness in coming.
Mrs McConkey gave the “Thought for the Month,” and afternoon tea concluded the meeting.
