DANCE AT WAIKERIA
THE STAFF ENTERTAINS. There was a very large attendance at thei Waikeria Borstal staff’s dance —the first for several years—held at the institution last Monday evening. All possible arrangements for the comfort arid enjoyment of guests had been made by a capable executive, and soon dancing was in progress to the excellent music supplied by the Waikeria Orchestra a combination that proved itself as capable as many much-more-famed orchestras. The large social hall had been converted into a ballroom, and most effectively decorated with Chinese lanterns, coloured streamers and balloons. Electric spotlights were used judiciously. Mrs Dunlop, wife of the superintendent, was the hostess for the occasion, and the ladies’ committee comprised Mesdames Dunlop, Barham, Rae, Rooney and Benney, ably assisted by a men’s committee; Supper was a much-enjoyed feature, and altogether the Waikeria staff dance of 1936 will be' a memorable one for those privileged to take part. Among the guests were many visitors from Te Awamutu, and neighbouring districts, and there was also representation from Otorohanga, Hamilton, Pirongia, and even further afield.
