STOLEN SOUVENIRS.
Relic-hunters have been busy in English historic churches lately. Underneath one of the ancient seats in Winchester Cathedral is a head, supposed to be that of a monk. The tongue hung out loosely—it is thought as a warning against talking too much.

Another theft of this kind occurred in Westminster Abbey recently, a daring individual having stolen the point of Death’s spear from the tomb of the Nightingale family.
Sometimes a missing relic is traced and recovered. During the war an American soldier who had been stationed at Winchester —apparently a happy hunting-ground for souvenir enthusiasts—took the key of the great hall of Winchester Castle away with him to France. Inquiries, however, led to the restoration of the key.
