AUSTRALIAN LADY PIPERS
The Australian Scottish Ladies’ Pipe Band and Concert Party, which recently set out from Melbourne on a wor\d tour, will appear at the Theatre Royal, Te Aroha, on Friday, May 22nd. The party, which is Australian born throughout and of Scottish descent, numbers 18, and the drum major and manager is Mr William Dax-win, F.R.G.S. It is the only complete band of lady pipers in the world. The band has created enthusiasm wherever it has appeared, the programme being novel and enjoyable. It came into being in Melbourne towards the close of the war. When so many of the Victorian bandsmen were away on active service the ladies took over the pipes and kilt£ of the absentees and formed themselves into a pipe band which has been in existence ever since. The band has given its services in aid of charities and benefits to returned soldiers, and has been instrumental in raising a large amount of money. No doubt the party will be cordially received at Te Aroha.
