LATEST WAR NEWS. LONDON, March 13. A vMesopotamia official message siatcn:—■ \Yc maintained close touch with the enemy southward of Bagdad. On the evening of March 10 the enemy on the right bank evacuated" his entire trench line, and we advanced in close contact with him. A general advance on lioth banks followed. We occupied the railway station at dawn and then the city. The cavalry advanced in pursuit, and after a slight resistance occupied Kahdimain, taking 100 prisoners. Gunbouts took up the pursuit. Since February 'J',\ the Turks have been destroying or removing everything of value in Bagdad. Our booty nevertheless is considerable. The enemy abandoned .j(!0 '.sounded. We counted 200 to 300 dead, and took HOO prisoners on the left bank of the Tigris on March 10. The inhabitants of Bagdad warmly welcomed us. PARIS, March 13. The "Journal's' 'correspondent in Egypt states that Arab Emirs are entering Bagdad alongside, of the British. This is of great moral significance, as the. Arabs have previously served the Turks, but their entry into Bagdad proves that they are willing to"rcvive the age-long struggle against the Turkish yoke. PEKING, March 13. The German Note has been delivered. It states that Germany is unable to alter her submarrinc policy, but every care will be taken of Chinese life and properly. SUDDEN DEATH. Annie Caldwell, single, aged 22, died somewhat suddenly at her parents' house, West Melton, th:s morning. She had been employed at Rangiora, but returned to her home on Sunday morning complaining of feeling unwell. Dr Brownlcc was sent for, hut the girl was dead before he arrived. An inquest v.ill be held. MILITARY SERVICE. The appeal of Victor George Clement Martin, farmer and threshing mill owner, East Eyreton, was adjourned sine die, his case to be referred to the Efficiency Board.
