The Mayoress of Kai.ipoi, Mm J.. 11. Blaekwell, accompanied by her daughter, left for Auckland last, eveniug on a visit to Mr Hugh Blaekwell. Mr Biac.kwell, who is the only sou of .the Mayor of Kaiapoi, enlisted nine months ago, and has since been in training at the aviaciou camp in Auckland, and expects to pass his final examination to-morrow. At the Burwood Hall hist Monday night Sergeant George Orover was given a welcome home from the people of the district. Barry, .r.i'., chairman of the School Committee, took the chair and welcomed the sergeant in a happy and humorous speech, and expressed his pleasure at. the. presence of Sergeant -iosiing, another Somnie hero. The ladies of the neighbourhood had decorated tiie hall most tastefully, and they also provided a most enjoyable supper. Mr Horace Thompson, of Miluer and Thompson, brought an excellent company of musicians and vocalists from town, whose items were much appreciated. A few remarks were made by Mr R. Ward, commander of the Richmond diurwood C.D.C. Platoon, of which the sergeant was a member. Dancing was indulged in until the early houra by the large gathering.
