THE STOCK MARKETS.

SOME NOTES AND COMMENTS. The entries in most of the yards at the Canterbury markets this week have been small, and prices have been affected on the right side for sellers. The only section that has not been so bright is store sheep, where the passings have been fairly heavy, owing, no doubt, to the spell of dry weather giving rise to doubts as to the coming season. However, there appears to be no doubt:; in the minds of holders of sheep, as some very good prices have been refused. Values were well above last week's for fat sheep at Addington on Wednesday, as the yarding was somewliat smaller, totalling about eight races. The sheep mere mostly shorn, and the quality was excellent. Prime shorn wethers made 30/- to 3.3/9, and lighter 25/- to 29/0. Woolly wethers realised from 38/3 to 50/-, and woolly merino wether; from 34/- to 39/G each. Prime shorn ewes made 29/6 to 37/-, and lighter 24/- to 29/-. There were u few hogIgets, which brought from 27/6 to 31/-. The best woolly wethers, which brought 50/-, were ownc' by Mr P. Kavanagh, of Riecarton, the line of 34 making from (38/3 upwards. The yarding of store sheep was made up largely of wethers, and they ranged from small and inferior sorts to some good, forward slice]). The wethers were mostly two-tooths, but the demand was not as brisk as usual, and a number of the best linos were passed at auction. Wether hoggets (woolly) made 25/9, and mixed rex woolly hoggets 21/9. Twotooth wethers realised from n 7/2 to 24/2, four-tooth 28/6 to 30/1, and four, six. and eight-tooth 26/10 to 28/6. Two-tooth woolly ewes realised 34/-, four and sixtooth shorn ewes from 20/5 to 32/-, and ewes and lambs (all counted) 18/6 to 22/6. Fat cattle we. in small ; apply, and consequently prices went up, and were on a par with the high values ruling n.vo sales ago. The yarding comprised chiefly medium-weight beasts of good quality. Fxtra prime steers bro.ight to £2l 10/-, prime steers £ls to £2O, and on'inarv £9 10/- to £l4 10/-. prime heifers £l3 "10/to £l4 15/-, and ordinary £8 7/6 to £l3, prime cows £l3 to £l6 17/0. The top price for steers was obtained by Messrs Sharp Mros., of Lad.irooks, a nice line of !-' steers making from £2O 5/- to £2l 10/- each, and Mr VV. )■'. Parkinson, of Ataalma also had seven stcrs which brought from £l9 5/- to £2l In/- each. ,
