SPINAL MENINGITIS.
SCATTERED CASES. "I do not wish to act in any way as an alarmist," said the Hon. G. \V. Russell to a Sun representative today, "but I am sorry to notice that there is a tendency for cerebrospinal meningitis to extend to parts other than those containing the camps. The last report (for the week ended Monday last) indicated a total throughout the Dominion of, I think, eight, of which only three were in the Wellington district. It is possible that the cases in other places may be those of soldiers who have left the camps, because it is remarkable that up to the present the civilian population has been singularly free from attacks of this disease. The matter is being carefully watched, and I have asked the Public Health Department to prepare a special report in connection with these cases."
