WHAT THE GERMANS CLAIM.
ENGLISH, FRENCH, AND RUSSIANS REPULSED. NO WORD OF ALLIED VICTORIES. (Received October 5,12.30 p.m.) I LONDON, October 4. A German communique says:—Strong French attacks on the Sailly-Rancourt Road and St. Pierrevaast Wood failed. The English at Thiepval and at Moquet Farm were again repelled. The Russians west of Luck were defeated. We maintained a)l pur ground, and thousands of Russian dead were left on the field. The Rumanians failed south-west of Gorgenj Valley. They made progress west of Parajd. The Rumanians who crossed the Danube hastily fled. Between Prespalake and Nizeplanina we withdrew to new positions. The enemy maintains himself on the left bank of the Struma, north-west of Tohi?ios Lake.
