MOTOR CARNIVAL.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the committee of the Patriotic Motor Carnival was held last night, Mr P. R. Cliinio presiding. The secretary reported that the propriotors of the City ami United Service Hotels had consented to allow hoardings advertising the Carnival to be placed 011 their premises. It was resolved to ask the various picture shows to screen films advertising the Carnival. His Excellency the Governor wrote, stating that he would be pleased to extend his patronage to the Carnival. The Mayor of Christchurch wrote with regard to the request that he should ask the citizens to close their premises on the day of the Carnival. Mr Holland stated that on the two previous occasions a similar request to the citizens from him had been ignored. The chairman said he had seen the Mayor, and after a chat with him Mr Holland had consented to advertise a request to the citizens to close. Mr G. Torstonson wrote, agreeing to do the handicapping for the motor cycle events. He hoped to be able to get down to the meeting. On the suggestion of the chairman, it was decided to ask the Canterbury Automobile Association to circularise all the members with regard to the holding of the Carnival. The secretary reported that the date for the closing of the entries was Saturday, February •>.
