ROWING.
AVON CLUB, The half-yearly meeting of tlie Avon Rowing Club was held last evening, at the Boathouse, Mr 11. Bury presiding. The balance sheet, which was submitted, showed receipts for the halfyear as £l5O 16/-, with expenditure £ll9 ;'./4, a credit balance of £•".! 12/8 being carried forward. There is also £6B in outstanding subscriptions, etc., to conic in, and with an estimated expenditure for the remainder of the season of £BO. The balance-sheet was adopted. It has been the practice for the club to allow members who enlist free membership, and to place their names on the club's roll of honour. It was decided that in future such free membership should apply only to the end of the season following the return home of any of the volunteers. A proposal to extend the privilege to the end of the war met with little support. It was agreed to hold the annual club picnic on Saturday, February 2ti. The club's Roll of Honour contains the following names: —S. Ayrey, G. E. Hoffmann, H. W. Robinson, C. V. Sawtell, G. F. Yeoman, A. Jones, L. Ilegan, G. Rush, A. E. Chapman, C. R. Crocker, G. Palmer, R. V. Challiner, W. Forster, W. Garrett, R. G. Kingsland, W. W. Newman, J. A. Stnpleton, P. A. Taylor, J. G. Taylor, 11. L. .Sail, A. W. Whitfield, A. ,1. Fox, A. C. Priest, and F. T. Owers. Several others have enlisted. Of those mentioned above, G. F. Yeoman has died of wounds. CANTERBURY CLUB. The half-yearly meeting of the Canterbury Rowing Club was held last night,"at the Boatshed. Mr W. 11. Evans presiding. A statement of the financial positiou of the club, which was submitted, showed that there was a debit balance of £42 0/2. The half-year started with a debit, balance of £n!9 10/11. The statement was received. The chairman urged that all who could should enter for the scratch fours. Mr V. D. Hewer said that he heard that several additional members had enlisted. If they could not get old members to support the club it would be better to close up. The chairman hoped that they would be able to keep on till the end of the season. He stated that the racing plant was in fair condition. It was suggested that it might help if inter-club races were arranged, and the question of approaching the other chilis was referred to the General Committee to consider.
