THE LATE MR F. H. PYNE.
TRIBUTES TO DECEASED'S MEMORY. Quite a gloom was cast over the saleyards yesterday when it became known that Mr Pyne had passed away. Many and deep were the expressions of regret, both from the large staff of Messrs Pyne and C 0.,, and the general public. The principal of the firm was looked upon as an ideal'empltwer by the stalf, and the older members, especially, felt the shock very keenly. In asking the assembly at the store sheep sale at Addington yesterday to pay a tribute to the late Mr Pyne, Mr L. Matson referred to the lengthy career of the deceased gentleman in commercial circles in Christchurch —a career that was equalled by few men in the Dominion. It would only l?e in the days to come that they would realise how grqat an influence Mr Pyne had exercised. The sympathy of everyone would go out to Mrs Pyne and family in their bereavement. Mr E. G. Staveley, chairman of directors of the Canterbury Saleyards Co., Ltd., referred in sympathetic terms to the death of Mr Pyne, and expressed the intense regret felt at his untimely demise. The widow and family would have the sympathy of all in their bereavement. The commercial community would feel his loss very keenly. At the quarterly meeting of the Chamber of Commerce yesterday afternoon, The president (Mr 11. S. Bourn) referred to the death of Mr Pyne, and moved the following resolution: —"That the members of the Chamber of Commerce mourn the death of their late colleague, Mr F. H. Pyne, and deeply sympathise with his widow and family in their loss." The resolution was carried, members standing.
