Sir George Paish, on leaving for London, stated that the United States was certain to enjoy great prosperity during the war, but misfortune was certain, to come later The world was now consuming seed corn.. After the war Great Britain would be able to reduce expenditure on armaments, and was likely to be able to defray the entire cost of the war in a few years.
