REDCLIFFS.

NEW SCHOOLROOM. A pleasant function was held at the Redcliffs School on Saturday for the purpose of officially opening the new room. There was a large attendance of householders. Among the guests present j were: Mr J. McCombs, M.P., Archdea- ; con Thorpe, Messrs C. H. A. T. Opie and Jamieson, representing the Education Board; Elliott, M. Laurenson, A. W. Beaven, and Wood. Mr Opie, in declaring the school open, congratulated the district on having such a live committee, which looked after the school's welfare so ably. He also congratulated the. district on having such valuable teachers as Mr and Mrs Kirkpatrick, who were teaching enthusiasts, and had both English and i colonial experience. Mr Jamieson said the new room contained all the latest improvements in the way of lighting, heating, and ventilation, and declared that the room would stand the test of comparison with the schools in the Old Country. Mr McCombs spoke on educational matters from the enthusiast's standpoint, and was loudly applauded for his remarks. j The chairman of the School Com-1 mittee said the fight for the addition j had been a long and hard one, but he j was pleased to say there had been no j hard words and no knocks. It had been a keen one, but a fair one. He also adjured the householders to help the committee and teachers to obtain another teacher by sending their children regularly to school. Messrs Wood, Elliott, and Hines also spoke in terms of congratulation on the school's progress. Votes of thanks were passed to the speakers, and afternoon tea was dispensed by the ladies of the district, proceedings being brought to a close by the scholars giving cheers for the Education Board, the School Committee, and the guests. ■•
