LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

CHAMPIONS ENTERTAINED. Dr Thacker, president of the Canterbury League, on Saturday evening entertained the members of the Sydenham team at dinner to celebrate their success in winning the Thacker Challenge Shield. Amongst those present were Messrs M'CuUough, W. J. Putnam (president of the Sydenham Club), A. Morris, Wv J. Mitchell, A. Hardingham (team, captains of the senior clubs), T.R. Pike, M. Orchard, A. E. Hooper, C. H. B. Poore, L. F. Simpson, R. J. Stirling, D. Buchanan, and W. Moyle. In presenting Mr E. A. Garson with the shield, Dr Thacker congratulated the team on their success. He referred in terms of high praise to the patriotism of the men from the sporting associations and clubs who had volunteered for service with the Expeditionary Forces. The League footballers, he said, were represented by many members. Messrs Garson, Putnam, and W. Bussell responded on behalf of the 'Sydenham Club.
