CONSTABLES AND CELESTIAL. OFFICERS CHARGED WITH THEFT. ' By Cahli.- — Press Association. — Copyright. SYDNEY, June 23. Two constables were charged with demanding, with menaces, money from a Chinaman with intent to steal. Evidence was given that the constables drove in a cab in the earJy hours of the morning, to the house of a Chinaman at Alexandria and threatened to break down the door if they were not admitted. It was stated that, looking at two young girls, they demanded 40/-, saying that they would lock up the girls if the money was not forthcoming. The Chinaman eventually gave the constables 9/-. The accused were committed for trial «nd were allowed bail in the sum of fi&G each.
