SETTLERS IN UNITED STATES.

A DEVASTATING TORNADO.

By Cable. — Press Association.—Copyright, NEW YORK, June 23.

Scores of persons were driven from their homes >in Kansas City, whole wheat fields were swept away, corn was damaged, and much live stock lost as the result of heavy rains. The rivers flooded the surrounding country, and railroad traffic is demoralised.

Many towns are isolated. Storms in Central Ohio injured twenty persons and did damage to property amounting to thousands of dollars.

A tornado passed through Shelley County, working havoc to buildings. It destroyed the telephone and telegraph services. Lightning fired two large oil tanks near Newark. Many farm buildings were ignited.
