Mr George Mason, of Okain's Bay, Bank 3 Peninsula, died yesterday, at the age of 53 years. He was an old and prominent resident of the Bay, and had also served on the Akaroa County Council. At one time he was-also Govern-, rnent. valuer.
It is understood (says a Wellington telegrahi) that' Captain M'Donald, a well-known officer of the Union Steam Ship Company, has been appointed Marine Superintendent of the company in place of Captain Strang, who recently retired on superannuation.'
Among the passengers for. the north by the second express last night were: Messrs. H. Harris and A. Dey, of the Otago Rugby Union, who, will attend the ; annual match between; the. two island teams in Wellington to-day. They were joined in Christchurch, by Messrs S. F. Wilson and CV W. Hervey, of the Canterbury Rugby Union. Messrs Wilson and Harris ara two the New Zealand selectors who will choose the team to tour Australia at the conclusion of the game.
