FREIGHTS AND FARES.

THE RECENT INCREASES.

Press Association,

DUNEDIN June 20

In connection with the Sydney cable regarding the increase'in freights, it is mentioned that it applies to all routes to and from New Zealand, and follows on Mr Justice Higgins 's recent award in connection with 'the Australian waterside workers." It should be understood that the increase only affects intercolonial trade, the New Zealand coastal rates remaining as before. It might also be mentioned that, while companies trading between Australian ports have increased fares by 10 per cent., and fright rates by at least eighteen pence per ton, in addition to abolishing certain concessions previously' existing, the companies trading between New Zealand and Australia have added but' 5 per cent, and 1/- per ton respectively.
