DESERTING POLICEMAN.

WELLINGTON, June 20. • : John Johnston, a member of the New Zealand police force, was arrested prior to the departure of the Tahiti for 'Frisco yesterday and charged with deserting his post at Oamaru. He was brought before the Court to-day and remanded till Monday, bail being allowed in £9O.
