CHRISTCHURCH BOWLING CLUB.

ANNUAL I«EETING. There was a large attendance at the annual meeting of the Christchurch Bowling Club held in the pavilion, Worcester Street, last night. The chairman being Dr icSandstein, president of the club. The annual report stated that the Club had been composed of 72 active* members, and 19 other members. The balance sheet showed a balance from last year of £59 16/4 and the receipts for the year were £273 19/-. The expenditure amounted to £304 15/6, leaving a cash balance of £2B 19/10. The report dealt with the number of competitions played during the year and the place winners, and stated that owing to the unusual number of the competitions, together with the reconstruction of some of them and the undue laxity'of some of the competitors, it was only just possible to complete the matches by the end of the season. The report further suggested that as the annual friendly match with Wellington was not played this year-the club should pay its visit early in the coming season, leaving the Wellington club the opportunity of playing the return match in Christchurch later in the season. Thanks were given to the green superintendent, Mr T. Strange, for the care he had taken with the green, which had received high piaise from all visiting bowlers. Thanks were also given to Mr Manning for having had" the green carefully tested by a surveyor, and to the green-keeper, Mr Holland.

The handsome trophy presented by Mr W. H. Macdougall, won this year by Mr Helliwell, will be held on the same conditions as the Marshall Cup which it replaces. ' Thanks were given to Dr Sandstein for a club flag and trophies for the rink competition; to the vicepresidents, Messrs S. Manning and W. Helliwell, for singles' and doubles trophies; and to.Mr W. H. Macdougall for the handicap singles trophy. The report and balane'e-sheet were adopted. The selection of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr S. • vice-presidents, Dr Orchard and Mr E. D. Mosley;' secretary, Mr J. Caughley (re-elected); treasurer, Mr ,W. Helliwell; committee, Messrs Bishop, Gurney, Torrenee, Atkinson and Dr Sandstein;> delegates to' the Centre, Dr,Sandstein and Mr W. Helliwell.

While the: ballot was proceeding the numerous trophies were l awarded to the winners of the competfions, and this lengthy ceremony being completed ordinary business was proceeded with. ; Mr F. Strange gave notice of motion for next meeting that the general subscription should be £3 13/6, reducible to £3 3/- if paid before January 31. Mr E. D. Mosley moved,'that at the commencement of next season, and before October 3.1' in every year, the playing members of the club shall be required to state in writing whether they elect to play in all club competitions as "afternoon" or as-"evening" players. The players will then be arranged in two main sections, "afternoon" and •'' evening." The winners of the two sections will meet and decide the event in a final game. Play in the "afternoon section shall not start before 2

p.m., nor in the "evening" section before 5 p.m., except by mutual consent of the competing parties. In speaking to the motion, Mr Mosley said that if the proposed division were made, the result would be that the competitions would conclude earlier in the season. There was such & great number of competitions now that some such division was needed so as to get the matches through in time. Other members, however, were. of a fairly general opinion that the proposal would not effect its purpose, and that what was wanted was stronger control by the committees in charge of the games.

Mr Gurney moved as an amendment that each competition should be differently classed as "evening" or "afternoon" at the beginning of the season. Mr Mosley suggested that if a stipulation were made that a definite time were iixed for the completion of each round, and kept to strictly by the Match Committee, he would withdraw his original motion and. accept' the amendment. This was done, and the amendment carried.
