A SUCCESSFUL SALE.
CLYDESDALES & SOUTHDOWNS.
One of the most; successful clearing sales ever held in Canterbury was conducted by the National Mortgage and Agency Company, Ltd., yesterday. .This was at Yaldliurst, on behalf of Mr D. M'Lure. Mr M'Lure some time ago sold, the bulk of his property, and the dispersal of his stud of Clydesdales and Southdown sheep, together with the general dead stock of the farm was the result. A very big catalogue was expeditiously put through by Messrs Adam Smith and "Woods,, the firm's auctioneers.
THE CLYDESDALES., , ! When the draughts ' were paraded |-,hey . made an excellent display, anil it was rather regrettable -o see such a lot of fine quality mares dispersed. The foals, too, were a grand lot, being mostly by Mr M 'Lure's importation Aitkenbrae.* They were put into the sale ring in the pink of ..condition, and there was a big contingent of draught horse men present, and they came prepared to buy. The top price of the sale was paid by Mr J as. Little, for a grand chestnut mare jby Shepherd Lad from Glenmuir Model, and stinted to Aitkenbrae. Commencing at 100 guineas the bidding rose by 10 guinea bids to 150 guineas before the hammer, fell. Another lot secured the sariie buyer went to three figures, also a Shepherd Lass mare, a first prize-taker at the Christchurch Show, bringing 101 guineas. Mr W. Nicholls, of Belfast, paid 131 guineas fQr. a shapely, well set-up Shepherd Ladfmare. The best priced foal of'the daywas a filly from Glenmuir Metlal by Aitkenbrae. For this Mr R. Coley, of Greendale, paid 42 guineas.
