LITTLE RIVER.
A well-attended meeting of the '' Masquerade'' Fancy Dress Ball Committee was held on Wednesday evening. Arrangements were made to hold the ball on June 5. Prizes will be given for the best fancy dress (lady and gentleman) .
BANKS PENINSULA. The fortnightly meeting .of the Akaroa Borough Council was held on Wednesday evening. The Mayor, Mr G. Armstrong, was installed for the ensuing year, and took his seat. The following business was transacted: — A petroleum license was granted, on the application of Mr L. I. Vangioni. Notice was received from- the Municipal Association of a conference of delegates next July in Wellington*, The to\»n clerk reported the death of Cr. Daly, and Cr. Jjjfcvton' tendered his resignation as a councillor. Instructions were given to have the vacancy filled. Accounts amounting to £99 9/3 were passed for payment. The monthly sitting of the S.M. Court was held on Wednesday, before Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M., and Mr G. Armstrong, J.P. A first offender was fined 5/- and costs for druxikenness. Judgment by default was given in the following cases: —M'Eeddie (Mr Williams) v. Hokianga, £5 4/- and costs; Maling and Co. (Mr Donnelly) v. Irving, £3 4/1, and cos.ts; Laller v... Wright • and Milne, claim, for 12 sacks of cocksfoot seed, - valued 1 £25, detained by defendants, ami £lO damages for detention (Mr Hunter appeared for plaintiff and Mr Donnelly for defendants).' After hearing lengthy evidence the case was adjourned for further hearing of expert evidence in/Christchurch.
GLENTUNNEL.
RIVERSLEIGH CLEARING- SALE. A most successful sale conducted by the N.Z. Farmers' Co-operative Association and Dalgety and Co., Ltd., in conjunction, was held on Tuesday last, f when a large . attendance competed keenly for many lots submitted. All the stock was in excellent condition, and there was little difficulty in disposing of everything at full market rates. Amongst the many lots sold the following are the chief items: —317 4 and 6tooth Romney eross ewes 21/6;, 307 2tooth do 21/-; 464 8-tooth do 20/-; 114 5-year-old do, 13/10; 109 failing-mouth .ewes, 9/1; 40 2-tooth Down cross ewes, 18/-; 313 Romney cross ewe hoggets, 17/-; .143 wether hoggets, 10/1; 20 fat wethers, 23/9; 17 store wethers, 17/5; 12 2, 3, and 4-shear Romney rams, 21- gps.; 4 aged Shropshire rams, lj gns.'; 7-year-old mare, £47; 5-year-old mare, £45; 3-year-old gelding, £32; six other draught mares and geldings, £5 .10/-, £B, £l2 10/-, £l3, £l3 10/-, £lB 10/-; milch cows, £9 5/-, £lO, 15/-; fat cow. £8; yearling heifer, £#; yearling bull £3.
