IN THE WEST INDIES.
BRITAIN'S NAVAL STRENGTH. VOLUNTEERS INVITED. "Times" and "Sydney Sun" Services. (Received May 5, 8 a.m.) LONDON, May 4. The Admiralty's invitation to workmen to volunteer for service in Bermuda indicates that the Panama Canal is influencing naval arrangements. The ships on the West Indian station are twenty-one years' old, and consist of the Hermione and four armoured cruisers, which cannot be regarded as sufficient protection for British interests.
