SWIMMING.

SCHOOLGIRLS' CHAMPIONSHIP. There was some very interesting swimming at the Municipal Baths yesterday, when the first distance (25yds) of the Schoolgirls' Championship of Canterbury was contested, under the control of the Christchurch Ladies' Swimming Club. Sixteen schools were represented by 40 starters, who provided some excellent racing. Results were as follow: v First heat: B. Lloyd (West Christchurch) 1, M. Nichols (Girls' High School) 2. C. Dearsley (East Christchurch), W. Robertson (Normal), A. Johnson (Woolston), M. Grammer (Addington), and F. Cunningham (Sydenham) also started. Second heat: Thelma Kent (Technical School) 1. M. Sutherland (West Christchurch) 2,-Z. Butters (Richmond), P. Butters (Richmond}, C. Crozier (Sydenham), D. Smith (Addington), and C. Flannigan (Waltham) also started. , Third heat: Queenie Baird (Ashburton) 1, H. Wicks (West Christchurch) 2. E. Asquith (West- Christchurch), R. Williams (Addington), W. Gilpin (Waltham), G. Foster (West Christchurch), and E. Oliver (Somerfield) also started. Fourth heat: Doris Humphrey (Ashburton) 1, R. M'Gill (St. Albans) 2. H. Down (Addington), I. Holmes (Sydenham), T. Whitta (Linwood North), and C. Whiteman (Sydenham) ■ also started. Fifth heat: D. Cruickshank (Normal) 1, E. Fisher (Normal) 2. C. Hargreaves (Woolston), B. Jarden (Linwood North), M. Harvey (East Christchurch), and I. Streeter (Woolston) also started. * Sixth heat: A. Drayton (East Christchurch) and R. Adams (Opawa) dead heat. C. Dempsay (West Christchurch), V.
