LIFE-SAVING SOCIETY.
CANTERBURY CENTRE. > A meeting of the Canterbury Centre of the Koyal Life-saving Society was held last evening. The Swimming Association notified an alteration in the rules permitting life-savers to receive travelling, allowance when giving demonstrations (in teams of six), provided that-no member competed for a prize when so travelling. The Te Oranga Home was affiliated with the society. It was reported that seven girls had gained the elementary certificate, Mrs Bambery having done excellent work in instructing them. A special vote of thanks was passed to Mr F. L. Anderson for his valuable work on the West Coast. The resignation of Mr B. J. Ager as secretary was accepted with regret. Mr G. E. Billson was appointed to the vacancy, and Mr S. Dickson was appointed treasurer. Messrs Collins and Munns were heartily thanked for attending the Blenheim Conference as representatives of the centre. Mr K. Bassett asked for the centre's co-operation in a street collection proposed to be taken on Saturday, April.
11, to assist the Sumner Branch of the New Brighton Surf-bathing and Lifesaving Club, re paying off the debts on their pavilions and life-saving equipment. Messrs J. T. Agar, E. Billson, and S. Dickson were appointed to confer with representatives of the two branches concerned.
