Carefully compiled records show that 200 slum boys, observed by Br W.. L. Mackenzie, while their physical condition and measurements are below the standard of the well-to-do, owing: to the lack of leisure, fresh air j meat, and food, held out a*challenge to the eugen- : ists' statement that the fruit of bad stock is hopelessly inferior. Dr Mackenzie would expect in the children of such parents many disquieting features, but considers they are not badly equipped for life. [Dr William Leslie Mackenzie, F.R.C.P.E., who has been medical member of the-Local Government Board for Scotland since' 1904, has, taken a keen interest in the health of the young. His publications on the subject include : "Medical Inspection of School Children," "Health of the School Child," "Health and Disease," etc.]
