TIMBER YARD BLAZE

EMPTY BOTTLES DISCOVERED Timber stacks in the yard of Smith and Smith, Limited, near the Northcote vehicular ferry tee In Jellicoe Street caught fire this morning, and considerable damage was done before the City Brigade arived and extinguished the flames. A quantity cf timber was burned, and a shavingmachine in a shed on the property was slightly damaged. A number of empty beer and whisky bottles were la,ter found near the seat ot the fire, and it seems that some persons had either had a meeting there, or had used the place to sleep in. The fire started in a pile of shavings and sawdust, and spread to the building by way of the timber. Work is temporarily suspended. The total insurance is £3,500.
