TWO STOWAWAYS FINED
When John William Harris and Edward Ward stowed away snugly on board the Waitemata at Newcastle on July 29, they thought they would get a free passage to New Zealand. They didp’t. Charged with being' stowaways. Harris, a labourer, aged 26, and Ward, a labourer, aged 22, appeared at the Police Court today and chorused “Guilty.” Sub-Inspector Shanahan said that both men were found and arrested when the Waitemata arrived yester day morning. “Neither of these men have been in New Zealand before,” added the Sub-Inspector. "Fined £7 10s, the amount of the fare,” said Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., who fixed default at 14 day*.
