YOUTH ADMITS THEFT Pleading guilty to the Theft of £6 in cash, Cyril Arthur Rankin, an 18-year-old youth, who appeared before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., at the Police Court today, was remanded until August 13 for sentence. “This boy's mother is dead,” said Sub-Inspector Shanahan. “Ho usually lives with friends at Devonport, but in the last week of July he went down to a job on the farm of Mr. IJ. E. Campbell, of Pukekohe. About a week after he was there he was left alone in the luiuse after breakfast, and went into a bedro->m where he took £6, which was in l wallet under tiie bed-mattress.” Accused had gone into Pukekohe, where he had later been interviewed by the police and had denied taking the money. "He probably had it in his boot or sock at the time he was interviewed,” said the sub-inspector. Subsequently, accused had admitted the theft. He had spent about £3 15s 11 . 1 buying food, sweets and clothing. When arrested he had spent •all but about five shillings of the stolen money.
Mr. F. IC. Hunt, remanded accused until August 13 for sentence, pending a report from the probation officer and ordered that he be kept apart from the other prisoners until his appearance.
